Digital TV

General Information

The modern digital tv technology is improving the quality, availability and range of services and information available to broadcasters and the viewing audience.

Digital televisions use digital modulation and compression to broadcast video, audio and data signals to our television sets.

Advantages:

Digital tv can carry many more channels in the same amount of bandwidth compated to old fashioned analogue TV. The new digital signalling eliminates the analogue broadcasting poor reception problems such as "ghosting", "snow", and static noises in audio.

Digital Satellite TV is becoming more popular and commercially viable where it is used to offer high numbers of channels into its available bandwidth. Sky Digital TV for example is well known in the UK and joining is easy either online or by phone. New digital companies need as many subscribers as possible to make the profits required.

Sky's digital satellite system is the equipment that allows their customers to receive Sky TV programming. Every Sky digital satellite system includes three components: a small satellite dish (called a minidish), a digital satellite receiver (called a Sky box) and a remote control.

Every Sky box gives you access to a customisable on-screen programme guide (EPG), and more than 100 quality entertainment, sport, movie, documentary, music, kids and news channels, as well as 160 non subscription TV and radio channels on digital satellite.

Cable

Replacement of old cable set-top box may be required to receive digital cable. But users will benefit from greatly increased picture quality and more channel availability. Some may be free, others will need a subscription
